Morning All!

So I know this post is a day early but it fit into my posting schedule best!

Wow we’re now onto the 9th topic of the #2014 Blogger Challenge! This weeks topic is music. I have a huge different ranges in taste of music ranging from rock to musicals and Disney to ‘fandom’ music. The first time anyone comes in my car with me; unless I’m listening to an audio book; I always have to warn them that some of my music tastes can be lets say a bit weird.

But today I thought I would talk to you about parody’s and covers. They’re everywhere most songs there is some type of parody of the song. And today I thought I would show you some of my favorite from the latest craze of Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen. Every since the film came out at Christmas it seems the whole internet seems to love this song but along with the multitude of covers that have appeared on YouTube so have parody’s and here are some (in my opinion) of the best ones!

So this first one is more of a cover rather than a parody but I think it’s wonderful with all the different characters voices!

This one kinda cheats as well but if you skip to 3.15 it’s really good! The whole video is also worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. Even if you love or hate Frozen.

And finally this has to be my favorite! I was only introduced to this one yesterday and I just love it! And it’s really funny.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! And I shall see you next time.

Bye

Manchester Airport

Morning All!

Last week my friend and I went to Manchester Airport where they have a viewing area where you can watch the plane land and take off. It’s not something I’ve ever done before and I found it quite interesting to watch but I found it was a great opportunity for taking photos. I wanted to try using sports mode to see if I could get a picture of one of the planes just as the wheels were taking off from the ground.

Like my Llandudno post I have edited some of the photos in a more artsy way but here are some of the photos I took.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these photos, not what I’d normally take but It was nice to do something different.

I shall see you next time!

Food Friday – Bread

Morning All!

Today I’m going to talk to you about bread. So what’s the first thing that comes into your head when you hear bread? If it’s this song by Charlie McDonnell I wouldn’t blame you, however that’s not what I was thinking. There seems to be a misconception that making bread is difficult, but I don’t agree, I think that it’s more time consuming.

Last time I made bread I did cheat a little, I used a package mix that I’d been given for my birthday but I shall soon be buying larger bags of the different ingredients so I can make more. I do however believe that the package mixes are a good starting point if you’ve  never made bread before because it has everything in apart from the fat and water. I think they’re great for giving you an indication of how each stage should look and feel as you go along.

The one thing I will say is obvious but easily missed, make sure you read the instructions. One of the first times I made bread I mis-read the instructions! Instead of leaving it for half and hour for it’s second proving I left it for an hour, so when it was baked we had great trouble getting it out of the tin. We had to take the top of first then dig the rest out!

As promised last week I have some photos for you of when I made bread last.

20140407_123551 20140407_123907 Simple ingredients. Package of dry ingredients, oil or butter. I decided to go with oil. And lukewarm water.

Before and after the first prove.

Ready for the second prove then the bake.

20140407_152302And the final product.

I hope you enjoyed this post. I’m thinking of possibly doing a cooking rather than baking post next week. Let me know in the comments your thought.

I shall see you next time.

University Applications 2011 vs 2014

Morning All!

Today I’m bringing you a post I’ve been trying to write for a few months, and I think I’ve finally come up with a way that I’m happy about. I want to talk to you about University, more accurately the application process to university. As you may have guessed from the title I have applied twice, well I am at the moment still in the process of applying the second time but everything that I need to do has been done, so now I’m just waiting for results.

I wanted to give you an idea of how I found the whole process so far compared to the first time. Before I begin the main body I would like to say, I begin my second time round with 3 A levels, and As Level and a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma behind me with grades equivalent to 280 UCAS points.

Initial Application

The application as a whole I found much easier this time around, because I’d already filled it in and knew what everything meant, the hardest thing I had to do was go and find all my certificates so I knew which examining boards I’d taken my A Levels with. However I do remember that part of the application being alright to fill out because it was mainly just general information about you.

Personal Statement

Personal statements! The bane of every students life. Practically a 700 word essay about yourself and why you should be offered a place on your chosen course. Sound easy? Wrong! Who actually finds it easy to write about themselves? I know I don’t, much of my feedback from initial drafts we’re that I needed to get rid of the negatives that I hadn’t even noticed I’d included.

All together I did find writing the second personal statement slightly easier, when I first applied I had a larger range of courses, all studying similar topics but the main focus of each course differed so I had to cover all of them without making it obvious. This time however I was applying for all Drama course, they did have a bit of difference, some we’re Musical Theatre and another included a specialism in  Stage Combat, but I could link them all together. The majority of my performing experience outside college has been through Musical Theatre and Dance so that linked the two together.

Interviews/Auditions

So once your application form has been finalised, a reference written and everything sent off it’s down to the waiting game, either for offers or and invitation to interview or in the case of many drama courses an Audition.

For auditions I did not have any previous experience that I can compare to, but with the interviews both years I’ve only had one. In 2011 I can’t remember it very well but it must have gone well since I was offered a place. But this year I enjoyed my interview. It was a group interview and we’d all been asked to prepare some answers to questions about different elements of theatre. For me this was easy, it helped I’d been to see a production of War Horse a few weeks earlier so I was all set.

Needless to say I came away feeling extremely happy and I had a great feeling about the University and course as a whole.

Finance

Finance, possibly one of the most important part of the application process, but also one of the most complex and irritating. I was lucky both times with my finance. I went through both applications with out being means tested so I didn’t have to send off anything to do with my parents income which, from all the horror stories I’ve heard I’m quite glad!

I will say though. When I get closer to when I leave I shall be checking my application because last time there was a mix up and my bank details were no longer on the system meaning I had to wait longer for my initial payment.

Accommodation

Accommodation, your place, the place you will eat, study, party, drink, write and stay up all night in and possibly from time to time sleep. The applications for each university’s accommodation is different. For example last time I applied I had the choice of every single hall of residence available in the university because of how the campus was set out. How ever this time my chosen university is spread over a city so to be close to where I hope to be studying I had a much smaller choice.

I found that this time around I applied for my accommodation much earlier on that last time, this may have been because I heard back from places and made my final choice much earlier on or that the process started earlier. But I found it very simple, I think there was more to fill out because this time the accommodation is owned externally so they won’t have all the information that you have already provided to the university.

Once sent off there was a e-mail letting you know that everything had been received and what will happen next. Since my offer was conditional I will not hear which of my choices I have been allocated until my final results are released in August but I have high hopes I will get where I want since I am on track for the grades I need and I also applied within a few hours of the e-mail being sent out about applying.

I’m sorry this post has been so long, but I hope you’ve found it useful and interesting. If you feel I’ve missed anything out or you have any more questions that I haven’t answered leave them in the comments and if I get enough I’ll do another post to answer them all.

I’m thinking of doing more once I actually get back to university especially when I start, possibly in a similar fashion possibly just about how I find it.

Any way I shall leave you now. Thanks for reading and I shall see you next time.

Trip to Llandudno

Morning All!

Last week my boyfriend and I went up/down (which ever way) to Llandudno just for a day out. It was a good day even though it was rather over cast and rain on us a bit.

We started off by wandering around some of the shops to look at books, then ended up of the Beach to take some photos which I thought I’d share with you today. Some I’ve edited to just to improve the picture and others I had fun with the contrast and they’re a bit more ‘arty’ and pretty obvious which they are.

We ended the day by going to a cafe for a hot chocolate/coffee and cake before heading home.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and I shall see you next time.

Food Friday – Sour-Cream Chocolate Cake with Sour-Cream Icing

Morning All!

Wow that is a long title! But the cake had a very long name. Here is another blog for my new ‘series’ (if I can even call it that) about food. Today I shall be talking about this cake. I once again don’t have any photos, because the story behind this one is;

In February it was my mums birthday and I said I’d make her a cake and her requirements for the cake was interesting and possibly chocolate so I found this one.

This cake is from Nigella Lawsons’s : How To Be A Domestic Goddess.

It was a simple enough recipe to follow, a mix most of the dry ingredients together in one bowl then the rest in another and finally mix the two together.

Overall I wasn’t that impressed with the cake, it came out very dry. Personally I’m a bit hit and miss with chocolate cake anyway but this one was slightly under cooked through the middle as well, as I said came out really dry so it wasn’t my favorite cake I’ve ever made.

The icing however was fabulous! It was so good. It was probably slightly more complicated than normal icing because it involved more ingredients, such as dark and milk chocolate, sour-cream, butter, golden syrup, icing sugar and vanilla extract. But it was worth it! Words can not describe how good it was. I think I will have to find an amazing chocolate cake recipe and pair it with this icing and then I may have found my perfect chocolate cake!

So this post is shorter than last weeks, but I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Next weeks food post will definitely have photos to accompany it I can guarantee it!

I’m trying to figure out when I can bake more so I can do more detailed and better posts about things I’ve made recently rather than relying on my memory (cue Cats to play in my head!) of things I’ve made in the past but I will work it out!

I shall see you next time
